The Ballet Theatre of Dover will present their annual spring dance offering of CLASSICS & MORE –where traditional ballet repertory is juxtaposed with other dance styles. Dances from “Raymonda” features dances with a Hungarian and middle eastern flair. The full length ballet tells the story of a knight who embarks on the Crusades, and the Saracen Prince who tries to win the heart of his betrothed during his absence. The suite of dances will highlight the technical and stylistic challenges created by the choreographer Petipa in 1898. It is one of the most beloved Russian ballets. Hailey Seale, 16, from Henderson, MD will perform the signature “Dream Pas De Deux” and Lauren Miles, 16, will perform the Cortege Hongroise section of the ballet.

“A Woman’s World” brings into focus different facets and challenges being met by women through the ages– from women’s suffrage to independent thinking, racial diversity and a well defined unbreakable bond that unites women everywhere.

Suite of Dances from “Tin Pan Alley” brings the glorious era of music and dance in the late 1800’s through early 1900’s into the 1930’s. The fusion of the emerging influence of African-American music, jazz, blues, ragtime with choreographers from Scott Joplin, George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin and Fats Waller are just a few that laid the foundation for what we now consider American music–a vibrant fusion of multiple cultural influences. The audience gets transported to that small area in New York City they call “Tin Pan Alley” because of the sound of the ‘new’ piano with strips of paper on the strings sounds like playing on ‘tins’. This was also the era of the player piano….pianos that played by themselves.

You will be humming in your seats with “Puttin’On the Ritz”, “Anything Goes”, “Sing, Sing, Sing”, and the timeless ragtime music of Scott Joplin.
Performances will be held at the In–Studio Theatre on Saturday,May 17 at 7 pm and Sunday, May 18, at 2 pm pm. The In–Studio Theatre is located at 522 Otis Drive, Tudor Industrial Park, off S Little Creek Rd (the Target Rd), in Dover, DE
